Power of Me for Boys
In the Power of Me for Boys workshops, we provide opportunities for boys to connect with their inner warrior while making friends and learning healthy ways to express their emotions and resolve a conflict.
Workshops include centering activities, mindful movement (Tai Chi, Yoga, Martial Arts), and a time to explore the workshop topic in a safe, encouraging environment.
The Power of Me for Boys is designed to be offered to boys in grades 4-8.

Dusty Thune, MA Ed.
Dusty Thune teaches Special Education in the St. Paul Public Schools, specifically classes for improving self-advocacy and empowerment. He is an artist, award winning film-maker, writer, costume designer, adventurer, and snow sculptor.
Ben Swarts is the creator and owner of HardShell Fitness, an inclusive gym in South Minneapolis. He also is the Manager of Wellness Initiatives at Special Olympics Minnesota, as well as the head coach of a Special Olympics Powerlifting team. He is a martial artist, teacher, powerlifter, kettlebell instructor, and gardener. The theme that runs through all of his life is passion around inclusion and giving people the tools and spaces to become their best selves.
Jose Figueroa, BS Ed., Tai Chi Instructor
Jose Figueroa has a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education from the City College of N.Y. He has devoted over 20 years to the martial arts. As a competitor, Jose has won many martial arts tournaments on the Local, Regional, National, International and World level of competition. Jose is the founder and owner of Mind Body Synergy Institute, which offers Martial Arts, education and alternative health concepts for fitness and health for the entire family.

How do I know if the Power of Me is right for my child?
The Power of Me was developed to be valuable to all participants in grades 4-8, regardless of ability level. Katie Thune, M.A. Ed, the founder of Mad Hatter Yoga & Wellness, who developed the Power of Me series, has worked for over 10 years as a school teacher. In this time she has also done extensive Special Ed work. Anna Hayek, BA Ed., a teacher for the Power of Me, has worked as an EL teacher for over 10 years. She has done extensive work with English Language Learners during her years as a school teacher. In short, the Power of Me is perfect for everyone.
How does payment for Power of Me memberships work?
When you sign up for the Power of Me memberships, you will be asked to provide credit/debit card information. Upon signing up for the Power of Me Membership, you will submit the first month’s payment. Subsequent payments will occur October – May.
What happens if I join after September 1st?
The monthly fee is the same, and you will still have access to all that is offered in your membership tier, minus any workshops that have already occurred.
Do you offer scholarships for the Power of Me?
A very limited number of scholarships will be offered to boys who are in need. If you believe you may qualify, please email us.
Can I cancel my Power of Me membership?
Power of Me memberships is offered over the course of a school year. When you begin a Power of Me membership you receive a ton of value and support from day 1. Because so much planning goes into each membership, an early cancellation will result in a $250 cancellation fee.
Do you offer refunds?
The Power of Me has been implemented with students from a variety of backgrounds and ability levels, and we’ve seen it consistently have a substantial impact on kids’ lives. We do not offer refunds. In the event that you should need to cancel your membership early, you will be able to for a fee.
